School Food Services
The Irwin County School Food Service and
Nutrition Program exists to promote lifetime wellness
to Irwin County students and staff by serving meals that are
high quality, nutritious, enjoyable, and economical.
We currently serve around 65,000 meals each school year.
School meals in Irwin County reflect nutrition standards which require
that over a week's menu, lunch provides students with one third of the
Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for protein, vitamins A and C, iron
and calcium, and one third of the Recommended Energy Intake (REI) for
calories. School breakfast must provide one fourth of the RDA and REI
over a week.

ICHS School Nutrition Program Honored by Georgia DOE
Congratulations to Irwin County High School for reaching
a high level of student participation in the School Nutrition Program!
During the 2003-2004 school year 74% of students in
attendance in Georgia schools ate lunch each day and 28% ate breakfast.
This participation is among the highest in the nation. Schools that
earned this distinction generally share two common characteristics:
(1) administrators, faculty, and staff who support and participate in
the program and who see the program as enhancing the learning process
and (2) many of these schools offer a wide variety of menu choices daily,
allowing students a greater opportunity to select a nutritionally complete
meal that they enjoy.
Irwin County High School achieved a 71% participation
rate. A certificate from the Georgia DOE that acknowledges this successful
effort has been awarded to ICHS.
